A lot of food that we eat today contains genetically modified ingredients and usually without our knowledge. Genetically modified (GM) foods are food items that have had their DNA changed through genetic engineering. Since GM food was introduced in 1994 it is a very controversial issue. Some people say that it is a great chance for humanity and some claim that this phenomenon can lead to disaster.
First of all the world's population increases. There are more and more people on the planet Earth. Hunger is one of the most important problems that human kind have to cope with. Genetically enginereed plants are bigger, usually cheaper, they grow faster and survive in cold climates. It can be the chance for the poor developing countries.
Some scientists say that genetically modyfied food can also be a solution for some diseases. They say that food can be a medicine as well. Genetically improved food can provide more nutritions.
On the other hand, the opponents say that the genetically modified food is not an only answer for hunger in the world. Increased food production is no solution for that. It is not the problem with the amount of food in the world but with distribution of it.
Furthermore, we can't predict the impact of genetically engineered organisms on the environment. We can't underestimate the power of the nature. Maybe those experiments will turn nature against us.
all in all there are some advantages and disadvantages of genetically modyfied food.
In my opinion there is no point in stopping the researches, but scientists should be aware of some potential dangerous of messing with nature. The customers should be informed about the origin of the ingredients used in food industry.

ReplyDeleteThey found a perfect way to improve cultivations by plugging a greenhouse to the Shell's rafinery. This method makes CO2 flows from the factory straight to the greenhouse, thanks to that all the plants grow better and faster. Everyone know the fact that plants, in contrast to human, take the co2 from atmosphere and give back o2. This solution not only help growings but also keep the enviromnent clean from rafineries impurity and gives fresh air to atmosphere.
As you can see, genetic modification is not nessesarily or the only way to solve world's starvation. I strongly believe in human cleverness which may solve all the problems without side effects.
I strongly believe that a technology you mentioned about is using only pure corbon dioxide, not the factory's fumes just like plants growing near roads. It can be a good strategy to reduce CO2 atmosphere emission in industrialized areas of the world - but what about underdeveloped regions like Africa or poorest parts of Asia? I don't suppose there would be enough great factories to provide such a technology.
ReplyDeleteIn the film it is said that genetical modifications are not the way to produce more food, but to enrich the concerns like Monsanto. I think it is a matter of usage the GM, if it would help to fight starvation and reduce poverty of the Third World or just to make money on it. Providing strict legal regulations concerning GMO can make them be Third World's salvage.
I am not sure if Genetically Modifield food is good or not. It’s hard to evaluate for layman considering the fact that the biggest and well-known scientists can’t reach an agreement. This subject stirs up controversies. It seems that this type of food is both resistant and fresh long time. However, we don’t know exactly which effects it will make in the future. Maybe, it will contribute to arise some, new illness... So, in my opinion we are more safety if we will buy ecological products. Poland has high level of healthy food, and in the same time we will support our Polish market;)
ReplyDeleteGenetically modified foods provoke many questions and ethical issues about which everyone should take a view.We don't know the risks involved in the genetic modification of food.I think that GM food will be very dangerous, if we can not control it. Even a small mistake can cause a great ecological tragedy. On the other hand, GM food will save many people in the future.
ReplyDeleteScientists don't know what is the real imapct of the GM food on human health. We can only suppose that there is some bad influence. Mayby just generation of our children will bear the negative consequences of our recklessness. Playing with genes must have same long-term results. Mayby we should have the future of our children in our prospect?
ReplyDeleteI am not sure if Genetically Modifield food is really good. There are no prooves for good or bad influence on human health. I am convinced that we should eat ecological products for our safe. Even if it can help for Third World we can't be sure that in several years scientist find negative influence on human health...
