Jobs that will disappear and appear in 20 years

Technology develops faster and faster. Here are few jobs that will disappear or appear in the next 20 years:

Jobs that will disappear

Grocery Store Cashier

Using credit cards is much more comfortable than cash. Presumably, all jobs dealing with paper money, like bank tellers, could be obsolete in two decades, as we rely more on credit and digital money. We already have grocery lines where we can scan and bag our own groceries and then pay the machine.

Film Processor

If you want to stick with old-fashioned photography, you better build your own darkroom. All the photo stores are going digital now.

CD Store Manager

Why browse for CD's at a store when you can search for MP3's online? Music producers are going digital, and sellers must adjust as well. Compact discs don't have the artistic flair of old records, so they won't have the same vintage cachet either.

Encyclopedia Writer

Everyone's using Wikipedia now.
This 21st-century encyclopedia is free, online and edited by readers. It's much easier to find something on the Internet than to search in many volumes of thick books.

New jobs that will appear

Gene Screener

In the future, a genetic screen could be as common as a drug test. Employers will need technicians to collect and analyse DNA from potential hires as they attempt to screen out workers with a propensity for drug abuse or other conditions that could interfere with productivity.

Drowned City Specialist

Suppose climate change happens a lot more quickly than expected. "There will be a whole lot of jobs for people who deal with drowned cities," says Stewart Brand, a futurist and co-chairman of the Long Now Foundation. Belongings will need to be rescued, and houses must be moved to higher ground.

Teleport Specialist

Imagine walking to a teleport station at the end of the block, dematerialising and reappearing at work. Cars would be gone, auto mechanics would be gone, gas station would be gone and a whole new economy could develop based on the teleporter!

Space Tour Guide

It's likely we'll soon be taking trips to space for pleasure and showing off. Virgin Galactic, a unit of Virgin Group, is already planning just such a space program. The trips, which cost $200,000, will begin soon.

  1. In my opinion it is normal phenomenon, when some job disappear and some appear. Everything have both start and finish. Some people born and some die… The same situation is with technology.. at first was typewriter but now nobody uses this. People have computers and laptops. It is thought to be more easier and more comfortable… It is obvious that some jobs must disappear…. However in nature is big balance, so I cant wait to go on cosmos trip. In my opinion new jobs are very necessary and what is more I think that in the nearest future will be theirs increase

  2. Well, you're probably right in your presentation. But it's normal I think. Nothing is really everlasting. It just have to be that way. So if we aren't really able to do something with it, we sholud just accept it and try to suit to all new situations :)

  3. Althouht it's normal, it's also sad, because there is a dose of sentimentalism in everyone of us :) But it's pointless to look only into the past and to worry about the passing of everything. Why don't observe the development of the new technologies (and the jobs connected with them) with excitement? It's obvious that in the beginning the new ideas are always considered as strange by many people. But after some time even the strictest conservatists and traditionalists become used to all these changes and they admit that all these new technologies and jobs really make the everyday life easier and more comfortable.

  4. I can hardly imagine that all the jobs just disappear. Even nowadays there are places, where you can’t buy anything using credit card. For instance, there are a lot of stalls or open-air markets, where you can pay only with paper money. They are gorgeous, they have their own atmosphere and buying there gives me a great pleasure. I also don’t think that people only read Wikipedia. It isn’t good source of knowledge. But I totally agree with you, that there are a lot of jobs, which will appear, because of developing technology.

  5. For me, it's natural for some jobs to disapear, beacuse of development. Some get more important and some are namely useless. Thinking about this kind of job you can (or at least should be able to) recall a job named speaking clock. For those of you who does not recall- it was a service done by a person who tells you, each time you call, what time it is. Nowadays when people are addicted to cellphones, which show time, the "zegarynka" is not going to make any sense.
The truth is that we are being replaced by machines and as my teacher used to say: it's not long, until there will be just one person hired in the biggest chinesse factory. Just to switch the energy on".

  6. I think it's very propably that some jobs that could possibly disappear in the next 20 years. It's normal situation:)This was for centuries. In my opinion, this is a continuous process. The reason for the possible disappearance of these jobs is because of better and more developed technology. The rapid development of civilization to the emergence of new occupations to modern technology.

  7. For me disappearing, appearing and even re-appering of jobs is a natural way of makind's development.
200 years ago there were no pilots, film directors, managers and rocket sicientst beacuse there was no planes, cameras etc. But there were more smiths, charlatans, salesmen and peasants.
In future for sure there be a lot of new inventions, which will recuire first specialist to use whem. But later every Joe Doe will have such invention for him own.

  8. Since ages people change. One kinds od human have disappeared, another appeared. It is an evolution. Job is another example of our development. But I don't agree with you, that new job, which you present, will appear in the next 20 years. The time is too short.

  9. I agree that it is natural for some jobs to disappear and new ones to appear. However I can't imagine such changes in 20 years especially in countries that are now still underdeveloped. Maybe in more distant future.

  10. I have to aree with the others. Nowadays this is normal for some jobs disappear. World is changing, there are new machines that can supercede people. There are computers (e-mail) and phone mobile and maybe in 20 years there won't be any postman. Who knows? In the other hand, there will be request for new machines operators. There are a lot of jobs, which will appear, because of developing technology :)

  11. I agree with you that developement is going to increase quantity of jobs. But we couldn't predict how long does it take. Common sense prompts that 20 years it is to short to create job like teleport specialist (mayby some scientists in some institutes but not common workers). Another thing with which I can't agree - CD's don't vanish! There are still plenty of people who appreciate values of compact disc. It's true that mp3 files are everywhere but their quality compared to CD's is poor.

  12. It is quite interesting... I have some thoughts about one job that will disappear and two that will appear. Film processor - It's a pity that analogue cameras are now history. in my opinion making pictures on plate (klisza) and admire them on paper give more fun and it is art not industry.
About encyclopaedia writers - It is not true - wikipedia is edited by readers so that it is not trustworthy. We can be sure only using veracious sources of knowledge.
About teleporting.... no comment:)world is not illusion or magic.

  13. The topic of your presentation is very interesting and atypical. I think that many jobs will dissapear in future and many jobs will be new. We can notice that woman take over men's jobs and vice versa. So it is natural that previous jobs will be substituted for technology, digital, multimedia and computers.
    I dream about space tour;)

  14. Very interesting presentation. I must agree with you that there are jobs which dissapear in 20 years becouse of appearance new one. But i will be missing for old type photos or music on CD's. How about jobs that will appear in 20 years? I think that it may be job about we don't know yet, technology expanding quickly and it is very possible.

  15. It is rather normal occurence that in the still changing world some jobs are disappearing and others come into being. Today's world development speed causes that also job market changes are taking place much more frequent. On the other hand the market is reacting on consumers' needs, then if some jobs are disappearing, it means that economic niche for such works also dwindles. I heard many people complaining about expanding technology, but if such changes happen, in fact the majority of society look forward to them.

  16. I agree with you all. But I think that "disappear" and "appear" are not good words describing this proces - I would rather use "evolution" so that "appearing" jobs contains samthing from the past.

  17. I agree with the others. It's normal that the technology changing and some of jobs looks different like twenty years ago. Some professions had to disapper to make place for the others.Maybe one day we weak up and we wont't have gas station because our cars will be driving with sun pannel.
We will see how it will be in the future :)

  18. I like your presentation because it show some process that I have never thought of. Modernity changes many aspects of our life, new technology replaces people in many kinds of jobs that will disappear in 20 years but I think that we shouldn’t be sad about the “death” of this jobs because we have to change our life, we shouldn’t stay in the same place all the time.
